The following is an ancient fable about looking within our hearts:
On the 7th day, while God rested after finishing His most glorious and magnificent creation, three demons gathered together and discussed methods to attack God’s most beautiful creation.
They decided that they would gather up all of the love, hope, and happiness in this world and hide it away from the reaches of mankind. Each demon proposed his idea on where these gifts were to be hidden.
“What if we took them to the very bottom of the ocean and buried them in the ocean floor? Certainly mankind would never find them there,” said the first demon.
“No,” the third demon replied. “Mankind is blessed with incredible intelligence. Certainly they will someday have the knowledge and tools to reach the very bottom of the ocean. They will find it there.”
Then the second demon spoke, “What if we took them and hid them in the farthest reaches of outer space? Surely mankind would never find them there.”
“No, that will not work either,” the third demon replied. “If mankind will have the knowledge and the tools to reach the very bottom of the ocean, then certainly they will also be able to journey into the furthest reaches of space.”
Finally, the last demon gave his suggestion, “What if we took these gifts and hid them within the very depths of their own hearts? Surely they will never think to look within themselves.”
The demons agreed upon this choice.
While this fable is certainly not true, it poses an excellent point. So often, we look everywhere else in this world for love, hope, and happiness than our hearts. This only leaves us feeling unsatisfied. But the good news is that God dwells within each one of our hearts, and in Him is where all of these most precious gifts lie. The only way to attain true love, true hope, and true happiness is by finding it in God. Look to Him!
