I heard a person say once, “Christ is Risen! So what?”
Let me give you a personal answer to that, “So what?”
After my wife’s death, someone asked me how I was doing, how I was coping.
My answer was, “Christ is Risen.”
Not understanding my answer the person said, “So what?”
Whereupon I said to him:
If Christ is Risen, then all is well. I have nothing to worry about.
If Christ is Risen, then my sins are forgiven.
If Christ is Risen, then my wife’s grave, and all graves, are empty.
If Christ is Risen, then He has opened the door to paradise.
If Christ is Risen, there is no situation in life which is a dead end.
“In the world you have tribulation,” said Jesus, “But be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”
“When did God die?” a wife asked her preacher husband one day.
“What do you mean?” said the husband. “God is not dead!”
Then the wife said to him, “Well, judging by the way you are so depressed and distraught over that problem you are facing, I just thought that maybe God was dead. You are certainly acting as if He were dead.”
Pascha comes every year – and indeed every Sunday – to remind us that God is not dead, that all is well because Christ is Risen, Risen indeed!
