“They made the leap of faith into Christ’s arms.”

Yesterday was Orthodoxy Sunday which celebrates the victory of icons. Since 726 there was an off and on war against icons. On the First Sunday of Great Lent in 843 the war ended and the veneration of icons was restored.

The theme is “The Triumph of Orthodoxy.”

“I believe,” said the apostles.

They made the leap of faith into Christ’s arms.

Listen to the record of what their faith accomplished:

They “who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouth of lions, quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, walked valiant* in fight and turned to fight the armies of the aliens.”

“I believe…” said the woman of Samaria.

She made the leap of faith to Christ.

We ask her, “How did the Lord Jesus treat you?”

She answers, “He gave me the water of life of which ‘if any man drink he shall never thirst again.'”

“I believe…” said the penitent thief.

He made the leap of faith.

We ask him: “How did the Lord Jesus treat you?”

He answers, “He told me that I would dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”

“I believe…” said the adulteress.

She made the leap of faith to Christ.

We ask her, “How did the Lord Jesus treat you?”

She answers,

“He lifted the burden of my sin.

He restored my soul.

He made me whiter than snow.”
