The story of New York’s 2 train is fascinating.
Brian Foo, a visual artist and programmer, used the 2 train to tell the story of New York’s income inequality – and make music – by mixing sounds and data.
Foo used the subway stops to map out the median household income of the area. He then correlated the level of wealth to a sound; the louder the music, the wealthier the area. He chose the 2 train because it services New York’s most economically diverse neighborhoods – from Brooklyn to Manhattan and the Bronx.
What a creative way to tell the tale of a city!
